How To Download YouTube Videos

Note: This article is for informational purposes only. Do not download any videos from YouTube.

There are a few options available for downloading videos from YouTube. There are various websites that will allow you to download and there is a ton of software out there that will also do the job. Each method is very quick and easy.

KeepVid

KeepVid is a website that will allow you to download either high quality or low quality versions of YouTube videos. This site is extremely easy to use and all you have to do is paste in the URL of the video you wish to download.

To use KeepVid:

• Visit the URL: http://www.keepvid.com
• Copy and paste the URL of the YouTube video you wish to download
• Paste in the URL then click the download button
• Note: It doesn't always work first time. On the results page you might need to click refresh a few times
• When it does work, you will see two download links, a high quality and low quality version
• Right-click on the download link and select "Save Target As" or "Save Link As" (depending on browser)
• Select a location to save the file and give it a name
• Done!

Note: With KeepVid, the lower quality video file is in .flv format. The higher quality file is .mp4. If you have trouble playing these files you may need something like the VLC Media Player.

YouTube Mate (Recommended)

Another great application for downloading YouTube videos is YouTube Mate. This is one of our favorites as it is easily the most powerful of the downloaders. This product isn't freeware, but you can download the free version which will do almost everything anyway. This software also plays and manages all the videos, so you won't need a separate media player.

Here are a few features of YouTube Mate:

• Supports unlimited simultaneous downloads (a real time saver!)
• Automatically names the downloaded video the same as the YouTube title
• Converts YouTube videos to various video formats, including avi, DivX, XviD, rm, rmvb, MOV, MPEG, and WMV
• Convert downloaded YouTube videos to a format compatible with your favorite portable device; including - iPod Video, iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPhone, Zune, PSP, as well as video capable MP3 players, video capable mobile phones, and Pocket P.C.
  

To use YouTube Mate:

• Download the program - Click here for the free download
• Install the program (this one is 100% clean, ie: no toolbars, adware, spyware etc)
• Run the program
  
  
• To download, click on the "Download" button and select "New Download Job", then paste in the YouTube URL
• You can also right-click anywhere to get a menu with the download options
• To convert, just click on the "Convert" menu
• Everything else is pretty self explanatory and easy to use and find
• The only downside is the ugly interface. Other than that its perfect

YouTube Downloader

YouTube Downloader is a small application that you run from your desktop. It is extremely easy to use and does a pretty good job. However, it doesn't give a choice of which format to download, it only downloads .flv versions of the YouTube video. Don't worry, it does have a built in converter that will allow you to convert the .flv into other formats.

To use YouTube Downloader:

• Download the application here
• Install the program. Be sure to uncheck the options for adding a search bar during the install (unless you want to actually install the toolbar)
• Run the program and paste in a link to a YouTube video
  
  
• Click "Ok"
• Your video download will begin

To convert a video with YouTube Downloader:

• Open the YouTube Downloader program
• Check the "Convert video from file" option
• Select the desired format from the "Convert to" dropdown menu
  
  
• Click "Ok"
• Your video will be converted
