If your installation of Internet Explorer is experiencing problems, you can follow the steps below to either repair or reinstall Internet Explorer. Note: This article is for installations of Internet Explorer 6.0 on Windows XP.

Repairing/Reinstalling an installation of Internet Explorer

To repair or reinstall Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP, complete the following procedure while you are logged on as an administrator:

1) Repair Internet Explorer 6.x for Windows XP

1. Use the System File Checker tool to scan all of the protected files on your computer:
a. Click Start, and then click Run.
b. In the Open box, type sfc /scannow, and then click OK.

Note that you may be prompted for the Windows XP or Windows XP Service Pack 1 installation media.
2. Reboot your computer and test to determine if the issue is resolved. If the issue is not resolved, you can try repairing Internet Explorer with the steps outlined below

2) Repair Internet Explorer 6.x for Windows XP (Try if (1) failed)

1) Open Windows Explorer and click on Search
2) Select All Files and Folders, and under advanced options make sure to check the hidden files box
3) Search for "IE.inf" on the C: drive
4) When the search locates "IE.inf", right click on the file and select install
5) Reboot and test to see if this has repaired Internet Explorer

3) Use a third party repair tool to fix Internet Explorer
