Speed Up Boot Time

So if you have just installed boot timer and now wondering how you can improve on your bootup time, well here is the best way to get started.

You need to run an app called msconfig. This will allow you to remove certain programs and processes from booting at start up time.

In Windows XP, click Start->Run, then type in msconfig. For Vista, just type msconfig into the quick search box.

msconfig

The MSCONFIG utility

From here you can stop services and programs from running at startup. Just click on the startup tab, then uncheck any programs that are not necessary during boot time. You will find that many applications that you use are starting during bootup, however, there is generally no need for this, as you can just run the program when you need it.

Just be careful to not disable anything that might be required at boot time. You can also disable services that you don't need either, under the "Services" tab.

msconfig utility

After tweaking your msconfig startup settings, you should be able to reduce your startup time by quite alot. You will need to restart after editing in msconfig.
