Windows 7 Jump Lists

Windows 7 has a cool new feature known as jump lists. These jump lists make it faster and easier to access your most commonly used applications, media, songs and more.

Jump lists are accessible from the new Windows 7 taskbar. All you need to do is right-click on a program in the taskbar and it will bring up a jump list.

Jump lists will vary depending on the program. Programs such as Internet Explorer will show recently visited sites, Media Player will show recent media and Windows Explorer shows frequently accessed documents, folders etc. See above for an example of the Windows Explorer jump list.

Below is an example of the Internet Explorer 8 jump list, simply accessed by right-clicking on the Internet Explorer icon in the taskbar. As you can see it shows frequently visited websites as well as some other options.

You can also pin your most used items to jump lists. Simply hover over the item in the jump list and you can pin it by clicking the pin icon that appears on the right. You can also unpin and remove items from jump lists.

Items can also be dragged into some jump lists. For example, if you wish to add the recycle bin to the Explorer jump list, simply drag the icon onto the Explorer icon in the taskbar.

Jump lists are definitely a nice addition to Windows 7 and something we will be making good use of.
